Genetic testing can reveal some of our innermost secrets – how long we will live and how we will die. This documentary chronicles the rise in genetic testing and the impacts of knowing this powerful information.

The program follows a young woman contemplating taking a test for Huntington’s disease – a devastating progressive neurological disease – for which she has a 50-50 chance of getting the dreaded illness. It also shows how other people, such a family with extremely high cholesterol, can use genetic information to lessen the impact of the disease by changing their diet.

Creative Director Robert Hone was the Producer, Director, and Writer of the educational program. The documentary was part of the Winding Your Way Through DNA Series produced by UCSF with funding from the NIH. Winner of the Ciné Golden Eagle.
